Curriculum Vitae Writing & Covering Letters

Good and Bad Curriculum Vitae Writing -

There are no rules to writing a C.V. it is a representation of yourself almost a type of selling of yourself and the skills you have.

There a few basic guide lines C.V.'s should go by for example a C.V. should be neat and clean. Easy to understand and readable usually it's more proffered to be typed rather than hand written.
It should be short however sometimes you may need to add additional information that you see as relevant to the job you are applying for. It is good practice to spell check your work but also get someone to proof read it for any unnoticed mistakes.

  • Personal details, including name, address, phone number, email address and possibly any professional social media presence. You no longer need to include your date of birth, owing to age discrimination rules
  • Career history, starting with your most recent job first. Include dates and temporary or voluntary jobs if appropriate
  • A personal profile which sells yourself and your qualities, tailored towards the job you are applying for
  • Achievements from previous jobs that are relevant
  • Qualifications and training from previous jobs, with the most recent first
  • Interests, if they are relevant and especially if the skills or teamwork concerned are relevant for the job
  • Any extra information, such as reasons for a career change or reasons for gaps in career history, such as caring duties
  • References, ideally two or more and including a recent employer

Good and Bad Covering Letter Writing -

A coving letter is normally the first thing an employer sees. It is your chance to grab there attention and make them want to know more about you.
Writing a long covering letter can be a mistake as it could be off-putting for the employer to read all of that information. A covering letter is a chance to sell yourself and to make an imprecation you want to include all the good points about yourself and why you are write fror the job. E.g Sales assistant position, I have good communication skills, good costumer service, friendly and approachable. Not I hate people, stupid people annoy me.
